58 artists from around the world presented their creations at the International Batik Fashion Show in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.
The world-renown art of batik is a traditional Indonesian handicraft which uses wax-resist dyeing techniques on fabric and is included in UNESCO’s list of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity since October 2009.
In Malaysian batik, the most popular motifs are leaves and flowers in order to avoid the interpretation of human and animal images as idolatry, in accordance with local Islamic doctrine. The Malaysian batik is also famous for its geometrical designs, the pattern is larger and simpler and the colors are also lighter and more vibrant than deep colored Javanese batik which uses indigo, dark brown, and white as its main colors, to symbolize the three major Hindu Gods (Brahmā, Visnu, and Śiva).
