The idea for this editorial came as I was observing my Louis Vuitton Monogram Multicolor handbag. I though, what if its design consisted only of brown and black colour blocking? Would I spend on that same handbag if it wasn’t for the multicolor monogram that brightened it up?
Realising in my mind how dull plain black and brown would look together, I wondered if the same rule applies in an outfit too. I tried to think how I could make a brown and black outfit look interesting – and I couldn’t, unless I added a little colour to break the monotony, as the french fashion house did.
So here is my version of making a black and brown outfit look punchy. The basics to start are a beige trench coat and a pair of black trousers that we all have. You can then choose a sweater in any bright colour (I’d also love lime) that would match the prints on your black and brown bag (the look would also work great with the LV graffitti handbags or any other handbag with beautiful bright colour prints on black and brown)
The photo shoot at this giant chess board works as a metaphor; two-colour sceneries, like that of a chess board, can prove unbearably monotonous. So let’s play with colours. Let’s play (with) chess.
