Athens-based shoe designer Stathis Samantas is presenting a geometry-inspired, sophisticated collection of shoes, from pumps to sandals, for Spring Summer 2014.
The collection was designed around clean, strict lines and geometrical shapes, either accentuated by bold colors or introducing calm pastels to project the details in the design.
Concentric circles with different diameters are “married” with squares to form semicircles, while parallelograms are also mating with each other.
Crooked lines and straight lines are ending in spirals coming out of the known limits which impose the straps to touch on the leg. The designer himself describes the collection as “an orgasm of geometry”.
The heels follow the linear aesthetic of the collection. They are either thin stilettos of 13cm, or 10,5 cm heels, very heavy at the base but ending abruptly in stiletto giving the feel of an inverted equilibrium. The collection comes then complete with flat sandals.
The materials and colors have been combined in a way to support the powerful outline of the shapes. The nude shade matched with PVC gives a sense of transparency, purity and quiet strength, whereas the black and green suede gives a feel of weightiness and luxury, at times matched with a silver mirror made of leather, whose reflection is balanced by the satin sheer of soft Chevron.
The leathers used are thin and soft, with smooth surfaces, without stamps, giving a minimal style to the shoes in order to avoid an extravagance of visual information but to highlight the geometrical lines and designs instead.
